Does anyone know if the Marriott will be doing a thing where Geek.Kon people who book a room early will get some sort of discount, like last year?

The short answer to your question is yes.

The longer answer is that it is different than last year. Last year a room for 1-2 people was $89 a night and 3 or more was $109 a night. Don't quote me on this being exact, but this year regardless of the number of people in one room, that room is $92 a night.

Put it aside in a savings account? I'll prod the hotel liason to get on with it.

The hotel reservations link has been added to the Location page. The link enters a Group Code which authorizes the con rate of $92. Note that you may still change the dates and number of rooms so long as you leave the Group Code.

I have a question about reservations, and instead of making a new thread, I'll just post here.

From past experiences Marriott's normally charge a deposit at reservation. Will I need 92$+taxes in order to reserve?

I really should not be answeriung this as I do not have a definnative answer, but I do not THINK it is a deposit on your room when you reserve it. If you are unsure of this, you could just reserve your room over the phone, tell them it is for the Geek.Kon room block on our weekend, and ask them if your card will be charged right away or after you check out. I personally have never been to a hotel that charges you before hand unless I reserved the room online from Orbitz or something like that.

No, you do not need to pay anything up front to reserve the room. You do, however, need a credit card. The front desk will use it as a reference. They will not charge your card. You'll also need to present a credit card when you arrive. At that point, they will charge your card the fees of the room.

I worked at a Marriott for a few years and that's how their usual procedure works. I reserved a room for Geekkon a couple of weeks ago using the group rate and haven't gotten charged.

Just reserved my room for this year @ 95.00 per (day)

Haven't seen an official announcement (but it's $3 more than last year) so.. maybe.

Information on reserving hotel rooms online will be going up very shortly, probably within the next week. The room rate will be $95 per night this year so... yeah. ;)
